Services SCB continued its dominance over the medals table with 31 Gold, 11 Silver and 11 Bronze in its kitty. Haryana, follow close on their heels with a grand total of 42 medals, consisting of 25 Gold, 11 Silver and 6 Bronze on day five of the National Games. Day 5 also saw a gold medal winning performance by Anthony Amalraj in the TT competitions. Here is a summary of key events at the National Games in Kerala.
Ramananda Sharma scored 400.40 points and Manesh Kumar 319.45 points to gift Services a gold and a silver in the Men’s 3 m Springboard event. Kerala’s Siddharth Pardesi took Bronze.
Maharashtra floored Kerala all the way through in Kho-Kho today. The hosts were beaten by 2 points in the men’s event. The women’s final was even closer with Maharashtra beating Kerala in a close match 11-10.
The final day in the swimming pool saw Sajan Prakash take another Gold, this time in the 800m Freestyle event. Karnataka’s Sanjeev R and Tamil Nadu’s K Abbasuddin took home Silver and Bronze respectively. The 22 year old local lad, however, missed out on a medal in the 50m Butterfly event while Virdhawal Khade, with a gold in the event, showed his swimming prowess again. Kerala’s Sarma P Nair and West Bengal’s Supriya Mondal.
15-year-old Manna Patel dazzled again, this time bettering her own record of 1:05.67 secs to take the yellow metal in the 100m women’s backstroke event. Jyotsna Pansare and Vaani Ka came second and third respectively . Maharashtra’s Aakanksha Vora who’s trailing behind Sajan Prakash in the individual medals tally, took gold in the 1500 m freestyle event, ahead of Saachi Gramopadhye and Shreyasi Chakraborty.
The 100 m Men’s backstroke event gave Services’ P S Madhu his second Gold, as he clocked 57.62 secs, finishing ahead of Arvind Mani and Aaron D’Souza.
The Table Tennis events culminated today with Tamil Nadu’s Anthony Amalraj beating Gujarat’s Harmeet Desai 12-10,10-12,14-12,11-9,11-3. Amalraj’s compatriot Shamini Kumaresan beat West Bengal’s Ankita Das 7-11,6-11,10-12,11-3,11-3,11-9,11-6 to take gold in the women’s category.
In the 75 kg women’s category, Kavita Devi, Mangte P Kom and Pounraj P took gold, silver and bronze respectively. In other events, Geeta Rani shone in the above 75 kgs category while in the above 105 kg category, Himanshu Kumar of Uttar Pradesh took gold, Sandeep Kumar took Silver and Punjab’s Jaspreet Singh took Bronze.
Services’ Dharmendra Chauhan clinched gold, finishing ahead of Manipur’s Bijaykumar Rout and Punjab’s Jasvir Singh in the Laser Standard class competition.
