Share

The Hero Hockey India League is into its third week and it has been a brilliant journey so far. While some teams have managed to recover from early defeats, some other teams have not been able to keep the momentum going. The Punjab Warriors have continued their stay at the no. 1 spot on the HIL points table. With 5 wins and 28 points from 7 games, the Barry Dancer-led side already have a foot in the semifinal slot and are looking like favorites to lift their maiden Hockey India League title.

Ranchi Rays move closer to Punjab on the HIL points table:

With 24 points from as many games as Punjab, the Ranchi Rays are just four points away from the table toppers. A series of stellar performances by the boys in red has earned them a position in the top half of the table. The new Ranchi outfit led by Ashley Jackson will play the Punjab Warriors twice and Delhi Waveriders once. Its a tough ride but looking at the current form of the Ranchi Rays, one can count them in as one of the teams to finish in the top 4 of the HIL points table. Not far behind, in the 3rd place, we have the Uttar Pradesh Wizards with 20 points from 7 games.

Delhi Waveriders face stiff competition for fourth spot:

While Punjab, Ranchi and UP have a good chance of making it to the semifinals, Delhi Waveriders are leading the lower half of the table with 15 points from 6 matches. The defending champions will face stiff competition from Dabang Mumbai who have 12 points from the same number of matches as Delhi. The Mumbai side will play two matches against Uttar Pradesh Wizards and they have to be at their best when they face the likes of V.R Raghunath and P.R Sreejesh.

Better luck next year Kalinga Lancers?

Kalinga Lancers are at the bottom of the HIL points table with 9 points from 7 games and are almost out of the competition. They will have to defeat Delhi Waveriders twice and Dabang Mumbai once and the five-points-for-a-win rule will work wonders in case the Kalinga team can pull off this miracle.
