With just two more days remaining to the end of track and field events, things are getting hotter in God’s own country. After a thrilling and adventurous Day 9, Sports Rediscovered brings to you a short summary of the events on Day 10.
Indrajeet Singh from Haryana took gold (20.14 m) , thereby relegating national champion Om Prakash Karhana from Haryana to a bronze (17.95 m) in the Shot Put event. UP’s Satendra Singh took silver (18.24 m).
In the men’s long jump event, Madhya Pradesh’s Ankit Sharma eclipsed National champion Premkumar Kumaravel’s valiant attempt, taking gold with his 8.04m covering leap. Kumaravel took silver (7.68 m) for Tamil Nadu, while Karnataka’s Samsheer S E took bronze on National Games Day 10.
In the women’s 1500m event, Uttar Pradesh’s Monika Chaudhary clocked 4:22.01 seconds to clinch gold, while Sini Markose added another silver into the host’s kitty (4:23.03 seconds). Haryana’s Sushma Devi took bronze (4:24.01 seconds).
In the Men’s team event Kerala beat Haryana 3-2, the hosts getting the better of the North Indian state in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches. Lady Luck did not stay with Kerala for long though, as their women’s team lost to Telangana 2-0 in the three match event.
On the final day of football, the women’s finals saw Manipur beat Odisha 5-3, while Haryana beat Kerala in the playoffs to take bronze. The football events in this edition of the National Games come to an end, with Mohamed Irshad T V Ali, representing Maharashtra, leading with the most number of goals (seven) in the men’s category, and Bala Devi Ngangom, from Manipur, taking the most goals in the women’s category (nine) .
Services SCB will take on Odisha in the men’s finals tomorrow while Haryana faces Punjab in the women’s finals.
Services continue to be on top of the table with 55 golds after Day 10 of the National Games, and with just four more days to go in the Games, chances of a dethronement seem pretty slim. Maharashtra and Haryana follow on second and third place respectively, with 27 gold each.
