Let us analyze the prospects of both these teams ahead of the match:

It will be an interesting contest between the bat and the ball as Australia take on England in their first world cup 2015 match

ODI ranking: 1
Australia are undoubtedly one of the strongest contenders to win the world cup this year. Their performance in this calendar year has been impeccable and they will look to keep up the good work during the world cup.

Led by the experienced Michael Clarke, Australia boast of a strong batting order and a deadly bowling attack. David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and George Bailey are fierce hitters of the ball and Michael Clarke and Steven Smith have the ability to pace the innings well.
In the bowling department, the likes of Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins can crank up the pace and will trouble batsmen especially in the early stages of the game as they will get the ball to move. Shane Watson and James Faulkner are able all-rounders and their performance will be important for maintaining the balance of the side.
Probable XI for Australia vs England
David Warner, Aaron Finch, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke (c), Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin (wk), James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins.

ODI ranking: 5

The Englishmen have been in Australia for a month now and have acclimatized themselves to the conditions.

Their key strength will be their bowling attack led by James Anderson. The conditions in Melbourne will favour the right arm paceman and he will be supported by Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, Chris Woakes and off spinner James Tredwell. A few overs of medium pace can be expected from Bopara.

As for the batsmen, Moeen Ali and Ian Bell have been in decent form and for once the English team has  a destructive middle order comprising of Joe Root, skipper Eoin Morgan, Ravi Bopara, Jos Butler and James Taylor. The recent form of Morgan is a slight concern but Jos Butler can more than make up with his destructive brand of cricket

Probable XI for England
Moeen Ali, Ian Bell, Joe Root, James Taylor, Eoin Morgan (c), Ravi Bopara, Jos Butler (wk), Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Steven Finn.
Last meeting: The last Australia vs England meeting was on February 1 in the Carlton Mid tri-series final. Australia won that match by 112 runs.

Prediction : Australia, will win this match based on current form and fitness. However expect an energized England squad to give them a run for their money and that is what makes this an ideal opener for the World Cup matches in Australia. Stay tuned !
