Delhi Waveriders Win 2-0 Against Ranchi Rays

Delhi Waveriders made full use of their home advantage to secure a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Ranchi Rays in today’s league game. The visitors were humbled by the superior strategies of the home team, who are now placed at the fourth position in the points table. The Ranchi outfit, though, managed to secure the top spot by virtue of consolation points for losing by two goals or less.

Ranchi Rays dominate first quarter

The visitors appeared to be at their very best in the first quarter of the match. They enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession during this period and made a number of attempts at securing an early lead. However, Delhi Waveriders stuck to their guns and did not concede a goal even in the face of serious pressure from the visitors. Ranchi even missed a penalty corner, which was hit straight into the lap of the Delhi Waveriders’ goalkeeper, in the first quarter.

Delhi Waveriders come back to life in the second quarter

The Delhi Waveriders sprang back to life in the second quarter of the game. They managed to subdue the visitors and dominate possession in this quarter. The hosts’ efforts were rewarded with a goal in the 26th minute from Norris Jones.

Both teams vie for supremacy in third quarter

A period of early domination by the visitors, followed by a goal scored by the home team led to both camps relying on fast counter attacks in the third quarter. However, no goals could be scored by either team during this period of play. Ranchi goalkeeper Tyler Lovell was the central figure for the visitors in the third quarter. He denied a number of goal scoring chances with acrobatic movements to ensure Ranchi were in the match.

Delhi seal victory in the last quarter

Akashdeep has a penchant for scoring critical goals and today he ensured a win for Delhi.  A magnificent reverse flick from Akashdeep Singh in the 53rd minute sealed the fate of the game. Ranchi Rays tried, valiantly, to make forays into the Delhi defence but were kept out in the closing stages of the match.

The win gives Delhi Waveriders their third victory in eight games, and it shall surely boost them before the match against Kalinga Lancers on Sunday.
