After their historic win against South Africa on Sunday, reigning World Cup champions India lead Pool B.
A historic triumph
India defeated South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday in front of nearly 86,000 fans. The winning margin was a solid 130 runs and India’s Shikhar Dhawan went home with the Man of the Match award. He scored an impressive 137 from 146 balls.
India posted a total of 307 from 50 overs and in reply, South Africa could only reach 177 before they were bowled out. It is India’s first ever win against South Africa in a World Cup match.
In Pool A, Sri Lanka had to fight their way to a win against Afghanistan. Afghanistan showed some great fighting spirit during the match which Sri Lanka won by four wickets.
India lead Pool B
With the win, India became the table toppers of Pool B. India now has four points from their two matches and is closely followed by West Indies who have two points from two matches.
Ireland sits pretty at third with two points when Zimbabwe and South Africa make up the top five respectively. UAE and Pakistan are yet to get a point from the tournament and are struggling at the bottom of Pool B.
The win helped Sri Lanka to settle in their group as well. Sri Lanka now has two points from their two matches and is fourth in Pool A. New Zealand lead the Pool with six points from three matches.
