It’s day 24 of ICC Cricket World Cup and with 8 more matches left in the group stage, 6 of the 8 spots in the Quarter Finals has already been secured. Defending champions India and co-hosts New Zealand are set to top their respective groups having had an unbeaten run so far.
ICC Cricket World Cup Points Table: Pool A
New Zealand, Australia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have effectively made it to last 8. Kiwis will top the group irrespective of whatever happens in the rest of the games and will play their Quarter Final at home, and if they win the same even their semi finals will be at home.
Australia and Sri Lanka are expected to come second and third respectively assuming Scotland will not cause an upset. However, Bangladesh could outrank Sri Lanka if they beat the rampaging kiwis in their last group clash. Here is the points table as on March 10th ,2015.
ICC Cricket World Cup Points Table: Pool B
It’s still all to play for in Pool B with four teams still in contention for last three spots. India have secured the top spot and South Africa – who have their last match against UAE – are expected to come second. However, it’s a three-way tussle between West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland for the last two spots. Should UAE cause an upset against West Indies, both Pakistan and Ireland will qualify. If the expected happens and West Indies does win, then it’ll be a toss up between them and loser of the Pakistan-Ireland clash for the last spot. The net run rate of the three teams being similar adds to the excitement.
