Co-hosts and rivals Australia and New Zealand will battle it out for glory on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The closing ceremony will follow the ICC World Cup 2015 final, where individual brilliance would be honoured, apart from the winners and the runners-up. Let us have a look at the contenders for the individual awards, namely:

Player of the tournament
Highest run-scorer
Highest wicket-taker

Contenders for player of the tournament at the ICC World Cup 2015 :

1. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka)

Kumar Sangakkara: bowing out in style

Legendary Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara has scored 541 runs in this edition of the ICC world cup and still leads the list of the highest run-getters. In addition, he scored four back to back centuries which is a new world record. Apart from his batting prowess, he has also bagged 8 dismissals from behind the stumps.

2. Martin Guptill (New Zealand)

Martin Guptill’s double hundred saw him skyrocket to the second place at the top run-getters list.

New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill has been under the shadow, owing to Brendon McCullum’s fireworks at the start of the innings. He has aggregated 532 runs and still has a game to play. Guptill needs to score just 10 runs in order to get to the top of the list of highest run-scorers.

3. Mitchell Starc (Australia)

Mitchell Starc has been the mainstay of the Australian bowling attack at the ICC World cup 2015.

Mitchell Starc has undoubtedly been one of the most lethal bowlers of the ICC World Cup 2015. With 20 wickets from 8 matches, Starc is in a close contest with Trent Boult of New Zealand (21 wickets). Keeping the stats aside, Mitchell Starc has been the most valuable players for the Aussies and his early breakthroughs in every match have kept Australia ahead of the curve.

4. Trent Boult (New Zealand)

In his first world cup, Trent Boult has put up a brilliant performance for New Zealand

If Guptill has delivered for New Zealand with the bat, then it is Trent Boult who has delivered with the ball. The left-arm quickie has been sharp throughout the tournament and has played a major role in bowling the opposition out on many occasions. His 21 wickets from 8 games stand testimony to his effect on this World Cup.
