The group stage match played between England and New Zealand at Wellington was more of a one man show by Tim Southee right from the start. The Englishmen were put to bat first in what looked to be a match between two well balanced teams. However, England were knocked off for a very low score of 123 in just 33 overs thanks to a brilliant performance from Tim Southee who bagged 7 wickets. Southee conceded just 36 runs bowling with an impressive economy of 3.66.
New Zealand took the game home in just an hour ,courtesy a quick 77 of 39 balls by skipper McCullum.
