The 2014 IPL season was a case of so near yet so far for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Virat Kohli and Co. began the tournament brightly at the UAE. But the Indian leg of the tournament saw a completely different Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit. Having run out of steam, they managed only a 7th place finish.
However, Daniel Vettori and the wise men of the Royal Challengers Bangalore have done their bit of shopping. The team, according to many, seems to be a well balanced outfit.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: A Batting Powerhouse
Over the past seven seasons, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have boasted of terrific batting personnel. This season, that aspect is no different. Apart from Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Rilee Roussow, the batting department has definitely been strengthened. Mandeep Singh and Manvinder Bisla were picked up prior to the auction. The new recruits include Dinesh Karthik, S Badrinath and Shishir Bhavane.
Much of the batting will rest on Virat Kohli and AB de VIlliers. While Virat Kohli will be looking to regain his form, AB de Villiers will be eager to trounce opposition bowling attacks with his innovative batting.
The batting unit of the Royal Challengers Bangalore thus remains a formidable force.
Adam Milne and Sean Abbott add solidity to bowling unit
In a rather surprising development, the Bengaluru outfit find themselves with an abundance of pace bowlers. On their best days, the likes of Mitchell Starc, Varun Aaron and Adam Milne can clock speeds of 150 kmph!
While retaining Mitchell Starc, Varun Aaron and the impressive Yuzvendra Chahal, the introduction of the likes of Adam Milne and Sean Abbott can be seen as reinforcement of the pace attack.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore also snapped up all rounders David Wiese and Darren Sammy, after releasing Albie Morkel and Sachin Rana.
Prediction for IPL 2015
On paper, the Royal Challengers Bangalore are extremely strong. Therefore, there is no reason for them not to be a bookie’s favourite to win the coveted IPL this year.
However, on the other hand, most people will certainly realize the fact that this is a relatively fresh looking RCB lineup. And thus, it will take a while for Daniel Vettori and Co. to come up with the correct combinations for the squad to perform to their best.
