The Indian Women’s hockey team played fluently and effectively to ward of the threat of Canada in an entertaining opening match of the Commonwealth Games. The 13th ranked Indian team were favorites to beat the 22nd ranked Canadians and led all the way to ensure an empathic 4-2 victory. Rani Rampal and Poonam Rani posed a potent threat on the left flank and scored a goal apiece. Jaspreet Kaur slotted two goals from the penalty corner.
India will next take on New Zealand on July 27 and that match will give an indication of the progress made by our team. We will be back with all updates on the Indian hockey teams at CWG 2014.
