The hopes of India to have a memorable outing at the ISSF World Cup Shooting in the Rifle/Pistol section at Changwon, Korea came crashing down as the Indian Shooters ended up having a disappointing day.
10M Air Rifle men
Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput were the Indian representatives in the 10m Air Rifle event for men. Gagan and Sanjeev finished 26th and 28th respectively in the first qualification relay and had a score of 619.9 and 619.2.
Bindra entered the scene in the second qualification relay and impressed by finishing 20th with a total of 619.8 points. The Indian shooters however slipped down the ranks drastically in the final qualification table. Gagan was the better ranked shooter from the lot with 44th position while Bindra had to settle for 46th. Sanjeev was 50th in the rankings and all three missed out on the finals.
50M Pistol Men
While the 10M air rifle event turned out to be a forgettable event for the Indian Shooters, the 50M Pistol held the hopes high. Om Prakash, Jitu Rai and Prakash Nanjappa are still in the running in the qualifiers and performed well during the elimination relays.
Jitu finished 5th in the elimination relay 2 and was followed by Prakash in 10th. Om Prakash on the other hand, competed in the first relay and finished 17th.
The qualifiers are scheduled to take place on 11th April 2015 and all three shooters will have heavy expectations on their shoulders for the event. They, however, have some tough competition to overcome in the qualifiers. The 50m rifle events are also scheduled to take place in the coming days and the event will be wrapped up by 16th April 2015.
