Sachin, Virat, Bollywood Congratulate Sania Mirza On Twitter

A host of celebrities congratulated Sania Mirza on the social media after the Indian doubles ace reached the pinnacle of world rankings. Mirza clinched the coveted numero uno spot after she and partner, Martina Hingis captured the Family Circle Cup in Charleston on Sunday. This was the third title in a row for the Indo-Swiss pairing that saw them extend their winning streak to 14 matches.

Sania Mirza is the third Indian to reach the top

Sania thus became the third Indian tennis player to rise to the No. 1 doubles ranking. Veterans Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi had scaled the summit back in 1999.

The Hyderabadi is also the fourth Asian woman to ascend to the top after Japan’s Ai Sugiyama, Chinese Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-Wei of Chinese Taipei.

Congratulatory tweets for Sania

Sania Mirza received congratulatory messages from the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi as well as the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too showered her praises.

The Indian tennis community lauded Sania Mirza and the international tennis fraternity including six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker too praised India’s golden girl.

India’s top sports stars sent their congratulatory tweets on Sania’s historic day. Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh applauded the tennis queen. Shuttler Jwala Gutta and Commonwealth Games squash gold medallist Joshna Chinappa too joined in.

The Bollywood brigade led by Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit too chimed in.

And last, but not the least, the most important man in Sania’s life – her husband, Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik sent his congratulations, calling himself her No. 1 fan. That Sania’s achievement came on the day the couple celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary, made it even more special!
