Ankita Raina and Prarthana Thombare continued to impress as India beat Turkmenistan 2-0 in the Fed Cup Group II Asia/Oceania Promotional Playoff semi-finals. This is the third consecutive victory for the Indian team at the SAAP Tennis Complex in Hyderabad.
Earlier, they had beaten Pakistan and Malaysia in the group stages.
India will now meet the winner of the Indonesia v Philippines tie in the final on Saturday.
Ankita and Prarthana cruise to victory
The 481st-ranked Prarthana Thombare broke Jahana Bayramova in the first game of the match. Since then, it was a one-way traffic as the Indian won six games on the trot to clinch the first set 6-0. Prarthana once again broke the 17-year-old Jahana early in the second set to record a 6-0, 6-2 triumph.
It was the same story in the second Fed Cup match. Ankita Raina, ranked 248, looked absolutely confident as she unleashed her inside-out forehands at will. Her opponent, Anastasiya Prenko had no answer to Ankita’s power and accuracy. The Indian closed out the encounter 6-1, 6-2.
