A career best of 4/10 from 4 overs from Ashish Nehra and a whirlwind 62 from Suresh Raina saw CSK push the Royal Challengers Bangalore to their third defeat on the trot. RCB now find themselves at the bottom of the table courtesy today’s 27 run loss.
Suresh Raina rips apart RCB bowling
The unfortunate fall of Brendon McCullum in the second over saw Suresh Raina join hands with Dwayne Smith. The southpaw began attacking from the word go. He whacked Yuzvendra Chahal for a boundary in the first delivery, and continued an assault the RCB bowlers thereafter. Raina scored an impressive 62 off 32 deliveries. What was more impressive were the six maximums he hit during his stay at the crease. While most of the other batsmen failed with the bat, ‘Super Faf’ du Plessis ensured that the Chennai Super Kings reached a total of 181.
The Bangalore bowling took a massive hit, just like the previous matches of this season. Yuzvendra Chahal was the only silver lining, and he ended with figures of 3/40 from 4 overs. Mitchell Starc’s inclusion was only moderately successfully in stifling the CSK batsmen.
Ashish Nehra blows RCB batting away
The RCB chase began in right earnest as Manvinder Bisla and Rilee Roussow showed signs of fight and grit early on. However, a super catch from ‘Super Faf’ saw Bisla on his way back to the dugou, in the 4th over. A peach of a delivery from Ashish Nehra ensured that Roussow was cleaned up three balls later.
Virat Kohli showed signs of promise with his innings of 51. But, when the RCB skipper fell, it was too late to entertain any ambition of victory. The CSK fielding unit came to the fore and most, if not all, catches were eventually taken. David Wiese was the last man to go as he fell to Dwayne Bravo in the final ball of the RCB innings.
Therefore, while CSK climb up to second place on the table, RCB remain at the bottom.
