Ahead of the Archery World Cups that kick off in a few days, the teams for the first two stages have been announced. The President of Archery Association of India, Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra declared the 16-member squad set to represent India at the 1st Stage in Shanghai (from 3rd May-11th May, 2015) and the 2nd Stage in Antalya (from 24th May-1st June, 2015).

Madhu Vedwan and Jyothi Surekha both of whom impressed at the recent Asia Cup Stage II meet, also find a place in the women’s recurve team and the women’s compound teams respectively.
Team Composition –
Mangal Singh Champia
Purvasha Sudhir Shende
The selection is based on the results of the Selection Trials conducted in New Delhi on 31st March and 1st April, 2015.
This will be the first international event in 2015 for most of the top Indian archers and thus will be a big challenge. Last year, the Indian teams took some time before regaining their old touch. While the teams returned empty-handed from the 1st Stage at Shanghai, the subsequent three stages of the World Cup saw Indian archers pocketing medals.
At the second stage in Medellin, the Indian teams had double joy. While the men’s recurve team comprising Sanjay Boro, Atanu Das and Thupuvoyi Swuro won the silver, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Atanu Das clinched the bronze in mixed recurve category.
Let us hope India is able to get back to medal-winning ways right from the 1st Stage this year. Sports Rediscovered wishes the Indian teams all the best ahead of the World Cup.
