India’s Shamini Kumaresan has qualified for the Main Draw of World Table Tennis Championships held in Sozhou, China after comfortably topping her group.

Shamini was included in a group that had Scotland’s Gillian Edwards and Venezuela’s Nino Neridee. Her first win in the group came against Gillian and the score board read 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8 in favor of Shamini. The Indian starlet then went on to defeat Nino Neridee 11-7, 11-3, 8-11, 11-3, 7-11, 11-8 and ensured her journey into the Main draw.
She will join the likes of Mouma Das and Manika Batra, who are already placed in the main draw, thanks to their World Ranking.
In the Men’s draw, the Indian hopes were kept alive by G Sathiyan and Sanil Shetty. Both players topped their qualification groups and will now have to go through another qualification round in order to reach the main draw. Sharath Kamal and Soumyajit Ghosh are the Indian players already in the Main draw.
It was a good day for India in doubles as well. Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan won their first round clash against Alyassi Alyas and Saleh Mohammed with a score line of 11-4, 11-3, 11-8. While in the Women’s doubles, Mouma Das and K Shamini entered the second round after defeating M Mueena and Nimal Fathimath of Maldives. The girls had a dominating win and it reflected on the scorecard which read 11-4, 11-3, 11-3.
