Rajasthan Royals is back to winnings ways in the 2015 IPL after defeating Delhi Daredevils by 14 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. After being put to bat first, Royals produced a target of 190 aided by Ajinkya Rahane’s performance. Delhi, who chased the score failed to reach there as their top order came crashing down instead of delivering the goods.
Excellent start for Rajasthan Royals
Delhi Daredevils won the toss and decided to field first. This decision soon turned out to be a regretful one for the team as the opening duo of Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane got Rajasthan Royals off to a flyer. They managed to pile up a partnership of 52 from just seven overs before Watson was sent back to the pavilion by Angelo Mathews.
Karun Nair then joined Rahane in the middle and picked up from where Watson left off. The Delhi Daredevils bowling was hit all over the park by the pair. The domination led to half centuries for both batsmen and this pushed the team score into a credible range.
Limelight on Rahane
Karun’s innings came to an end when he was caught by Amit Mishra at sweeper cover off Nathan Coulter-Nile’s bowling. Karun managed 61 from 38 balls and he gave some good support to Rahane, who was on top of his game.
James Faulkner was sent up the order to finish off the innings but the limelight was once again on Rahane. He remained unbeaten on 91(54) and helped Rajasthan Royals reach a score of 189/2 from their 20 overs.
Early blows for Delhi Daredevils
The Delhi Daredevils innings started off on the back foot as they lost their first two wickets, Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer in the space of 40 runs. JP Duminy tried to steady the ship along with Yuvraj Singh afterwards but the departure of Yuvraj off Faulkner’s bowling left Delhi in more trouble.
Angelo Mathews and Kedar Jadhav supported Duminy in the way they could and the South African soon reached his fifty. Saurabh Tiwary’s entry into the scene after Jadhav’s dismissal turned out to be a big relief for Duminy. Tiwary and Duminy looked destined to take Delhi to a victory but Faulkner once again played spoil sport and snatched the wicket of the Delhi Captain.
With only tail enders left to his aid, Tiwary sparked a one man struggle against the Royal bowling attack but failed to close down the target. The innings of Delhi Daredevils ended at 175/7 after 20 overs, 15 short of their target. This is the first win of Rajasthan Royals in almost six games and they will be looking to build on this momentum in the coming games.
