Joshna Chinappa played some of her best squash: Cyrus Poncha

Commonwealth Games women’s doubles gold medallist, Joshna Chinappa earned the praise of National Coach Cyrus Poncha for putting up a brave display against a tough opponent.

“Joshna possibly played some of her best squash today. Her drives and volleyed drops were wonderful and took her famed opponent by surprise. On several occasions she was in front of Nicol.”

Lone medal for India

Joshna’s bronze was the lone medal for India from the Asian Squash meet. Earlier, both Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal departed in the quarter-finals. While Dipika exited in a thrilling five-game encounter, Saurav’s quarter-final loss was marred by controversial refereeing.

The other Indians – Harinder Pal Sandhu and Mahesh Mangaonkar both crashed out in the third round.
