A great outing for Vinesh Phogat
Vinesh wrestled in the 48 kg category for women and had no troubles in the qualifiers. Her first win in the category came against Tsogtbaatar Byambazaya of Mongolia and the dominance of Vinesh was underlined by the eight technical points she won. The next round saw Vinesh pitted against Tatyana Amanzhol-Bakatyuk of Kazakhstan and though it was a tough fight, Vinesh managed to win.
Vinesh won six technical points and three classification points in the match compared to her opponent’s six technical points and one classification point.
This victory ensured a place in the gold medal match for Vinesh and there she faced off against Yuki Irie of Japan. Vinesh scored two technical points and one classification point in the match, but this was not enough to snatch gold as Irie went on to score three technical and three classification points.
Indian Tally Building Up
Vinesh’s cousin, Geeta Phogat had earlier won Bronze in the 58 category for Women and received praise from all over the country for her performance.
India’s medal tally is expected to rise in the coming days as the likes of Sakshi Malik and Anita Tomar have a great chance in their respective categories.
