India aims for first medal at 2015 Archery World Cup
The Men’s Compound team edged past Mexico 233-232 in the pre-quarter-final, beat USA 230-226 in the quarters, before bowing out to fifth-seeded Iran 223-227 in the semis.
Women’s Compound Team ousted in quarters
The Indian Women’s Compound team, on the other hand, was ousted in the quarters. Vennam Jyothi Surekha, who reached the individual quarter-finals on Thursday, was a part of this team along with Purvasha Shende and Lily Chanu. India put up a dominant performance against lower-seeded Singapore 223-211. But the fifth seeds could not continue the same momentum against the fourth-seeded Malaysian team against whom they went down 216-220 in the quarter-finals.
Men’s Recurve Team ends campaign in quarters
The Men’s Recurve team, too could not get past the quarter-finals. The team consisting of Jayanta Talukdar, Mangal Singh Champia and Vishwas, won a tough Round of 16 contest against Mexico by virtue of a better score in the shoot-off (28-27). However, their run came to an end in the next round as they were defeated 1-5 by Indonesia.
The Women’s Recurve team unfortunately had finished 18th in the qualifications which is why they could not play in the knock-out stages.
The medal rounds in the compound section of the 2015 Archery World Cup will be held on Saturday. Let us hope our Indian archers can clinch the bronze medal.
