Ninth seed Dipika Pallikal advanced to the pre-quarters of the Allam British Open on Tuesday, 12th May. Pallikal defeated Emily Whitlock of England, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-4 in 57 minutes to advance in the tournament.
Road Ahead for Dipika Pallikal
Pallikal’s opponent in the quarter-final is sixth seed Camille Serme of France. Serme defeated Joey Chan of Hong Kong, 11-4, 11-5, 4-11, 11-5 in 46 minutes. The quarter-final will be played on Wednesday, 13th May.
Indian Hopes Resting on Dipika Pallikal Alone
The hopes of Joshna Chinappa and Sourav Ghosal were grounded to a halt. Chinappa lost her round one match to third seed Laura Massaro of England, earlier on Tuesday. Though Chinappa gave a tough fight, her seeded opponent eventually came through, with scores of 13-11, 11-13, 11-8, 11-7 in 50 minutes. Massaro will now play 16th seed Nouran Gohar of Egypt in her pre-quarter-final.
In the men’s round one, Ghosal was defeated by Spain’s Borja Golan, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 in 56 minutes. Golan will now take on the top-seed Mohamed El Shorbagy of Egypt in the pre-quarter-final on Wednesday.
