Kings XI Punjab pulled off a major upset as they beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 22 runs. The match was reduced to 10 overs a side courtesy some early showers at Mohali.

Wriddhiman Saha en route to his 31 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore

Kings XI Punjab set massive target

Having been put into bat first on a balanced Mohali wicket, the Kings began in earnest. Wriddhiman Saha was the destructor-in-chief as he slammed the formidable RCB attack to all parts of the ground. The gritty wicketkeeper batsman slammed 31 off just 12 deliveries including five boundaries. Sreenath Arvind was the unfortunate bowler to face Saha’s wrath. A few small but crucial knocks from the batsmen that followed Saha, ensured a challenging total.

David Miller’s 4 ball 14 and Axar Patel’s 15 ball 20 ensured that the Kings XI Punjab finished off on a massive 106/6 in the allocated 10 overs.

Axar Patel and Beuran Hendricks tighten the screws on RCB batting

In terms of economy rate, Beuran Hendricks and Axar Patel were magnificent with the ball. Axar’s wonderful control ensured that the southpaw finished with figures of 2/11.

Virat Kohli and Mandeep Singh were perhaps the only Bangalore batsmen who looked settled at the wicket. However, Virat was removed by Anureet Singh when he played on to a ball outside the offstump. Things only got better for Sandeep Sharma and co as they took advantage of the slowness of the pitch and made it impossible for the RCB batting lineup to tee off. Mandeep Singh showed some promise as he attempted to replicate his heroics against the Knight Riders. His innings of 20 came to an abrupt end at the hands of Axar Patel.

In a nutshell, the hopes for a second place finish have well and truly been vanquished for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and they will now be hoping to remain in contention by getting a win in their next match.
