Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea’s winning run came to an end in the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia as they were ousted by third seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau at the Foro Italico in Rome on Thursday.
The Indo-Romanian pair had been on a six-match winning streak that included them clinching the Madrid Masters last Sunday.
Rohan Bopanna/Florin Mergea lose in a super tie-break
The third seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau were the more dominant pair in the early stages of the match. They broke Bopanna/Mergea thrice to take the first set 6-2.
With an early break in the second set, they led 3-1 but Bopanna/Mergea broke back with some fantastic returns to take the next three games. The unseeded team broke once more in the 12th game to claim the second set 7-5.
However, the super tie-break did not go their way and the Dutch-Romanian combine of Julien Roger and Tecau eked out the 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 win in 85 minutes.

While Leander and Daniel Nestor will fight for a quarter-final place against David Marrero and Pablo Cuevas, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis will be up against Julia Georges and Silvia-Soler Espinosa in the women’s doubles quarter-finals.
