2008 Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra was the highest-placed Indian at 15th as the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event took place at the season’s second ISSF World Cup in Rifle/Pistol section at Fort Benning, USA. The other Indian contenders in this category – Sanjeev Rajput and London Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang finished 25th and 26th respectively.
In the Women’s 25m Pistol event which was held later in the day, Anisa Sayyed was the best Indian performer as she finished in 21st place while Annu Raj Singh and Rahi Sarnobat ended in 23rd and 29th places respectively.
Poor first series score cost Abhinav Bindra dearly
With scores of 102.8, 104.0, 104.6, 105.1, 104.9 and 103.2 in the six series, Abhinav Bindra accumulated a total of 624.6 to get the 15th place. Sanjeev Rajput, meanwhile was placed at 25th with a total score of 623.0 (104.8, 103.6, 103.5, 104.0, 104.1 and 103.0). Veteran Gagan Narang was the third best of the lot at 26th position in the qualifications. He totalled 622.9 (104.0, 103.0, 103.6, 103.0, 104.6 and 104.7).
Anisa Sayyed – the best Indian in Women’s 25m Pistol
With scores of 284 in Precision stage and 293 in Rapid Fire, Anisa Sayyed notched up a total of 577 to be in 21st position. Annu Raj Singh accumulated 576 (292 in Precision and 284 in Rapid Fire) to finish 23rd. Rahi Sarnobat mustered 281 in Precision and 294 in Rapid Fire for a total of 575 that saw her getting the 29th place.
Prakash Nanjappa third in elimination round of 50m pistol
In the elimination rounds of the Men’s 50m Pistol event, Prakash Nanjappa was the best of the Indian shooters. He grabbed the third place with a score of 566 while Om Prakash managed to be 31st.
Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jitu Rai, meanwhile, got the 8th place in his elimination round relay.
The qualifications and the final of this event will be held on Thursday night.
