Rajasthan Royals recently secured their place in the 2015 IPL playoffs at the expense of Kolkata Knight Riders. The team will be one of the strongest contenders for the championship this season and it would only be fitting to take a look back at their journey so far in the tournament.
Dominant start to the tournament for Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan opened their campaign in the 2015 IPL with five back to back wins. Their first match in the tournament saw them defeat Kings XI Punjab comfortably by 26 runs while their second outing saw them defeat Delhi Daredevils in a close encounter.
Wins against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings followed, but this momentum was put to bed in the match against Kings XI Punjab. The match saw two teams tied in scores after the regular overs and Punjab went on to snatch the match in a thrilling super over.
String of bad luck and results
The super over loss against Kings XI Punjab started the downfall of Rajasthan Royals from the top of the table. They suffered a big 9 wicket loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the next match while the next two matches were abandoned.
Rajasthan’s luck did not turn in their match against Mumbai Indians as well, as the team lost out by a narrow margin of 8 runs. The team however bounced back in the next game and defeated Delhi Daredevils for the second time this year.
Hopes of making it into the playoffs finally came back to Rajasthan with the win but subsequent matches had a different story to tell.
Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad rolled through Rajasthan Royals with narrow margin victories making the last group stage match a do or die affair for Rahul Dravid’s team.
A brilliant performance from Shane Watson ensured the win for Rajasthan Royals in their last match against Kolkata Knight Riders and this in turn gave them a place in the playoffs.
