Royal Challengers Bangalore has secured a place in the 2015 IPL playoffs after their match against Delhi Daredevils was called off due to heavy rain at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Rain helps Royal Challengers Bangalore qualify:
Before rain played spoilsport, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and chose to field first. Delhi started off their innings on a high note as Quinton de Kock and Shreyas Iyer set up a solid opening partnership. Iyer’s wicket ,however, fell when the scoreboard read 55 and this brought skipper JP Duminy into the middle.
Duminy provided some great support for de Kock who was playing the aggressor. The young South African batsman plundered runs off Ashoke Dinda’s bowling and got to his fifty in quick time. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal provided the breakthrough for the home side as he dismissed de Kock for 69 (39). Following his dismissal, three more wickets fell in quick succession and JP Duminy was left stranded in the middle. The skipper went about his innings patiently till he got to his fifty and then hit the accelerator. They took full advantage of the slog overs and notched up a par score of 187/5. Duminy remained unbeaten on 67.
With a big total to chase down, Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle opened the innings for Royal Challengers. The match however was called out after the first over of the innings as the heavens opened up.
RCB will play Rajasthan at eliminator in Pune:
The no-result gave Royal Challengers Bangalore a point which in turn took their total to 16. They are now in second place of the IPL Points table and have secured a berth in the playoffs. Delhi Daredevils on the other hand will end their campaign on eleven points. Bangalore will be replaced by either Mumbai Indians or Sunrisers Hyderabad at the 2nd position as one of these teams will have more wins under their belt. With this result the mathematical chances of a final berth for KKR also went up in thin air. RCB will now play an eliminator against Rajasthan Royals at the MCA stadium in Pune on May 20.
