Royal Challengers Bangalore secured their place in the second IPL qualifier by defeating Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator. The team still has a chance of going home with this year’s championship but their journey so far has been pretty dramatic.
Mixed Bag of Results for Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore opened their 2015 IPL campaign with a match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Bangalore managed to come out victorious by 3 wickets in the encounter but their luck was to run out soon therafter.
Three losses followed for the team as they were beaten by the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. All three were home games which added insult to injury. The team came back to their winning ways in the next few matches; first, they defeated Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets and then followed it up with a dominating win over Delhi Daredevils.
Their second match with Rajasthan Royals was abandoned but even that did not stop their good form. Bangalore went on to secure another win at the expense of Kolkata Knight Riders.
They however failed to replicate the magic against Chennai Super Kings next. The team bounced back from the Chennai defeat with a whopping 138 run victory over Kings XI Punjab and a 39 runs win over Mumbai Indians.
Punjab meanwhile avenged their 138 run loss to defeat Bangalore by 22 runs in the next match. Bangalore got a lot of help from rain in their last two matches – first they won against Sunrisers by the D/L method and then a wash out in their last game against Delhi guaranteed their spot in the playoffs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore went up against Rajasthan Royals in the playoff eliminator match. Some excellent batting performance from Mandeep Singh and AB de Villiers helped Bangalore clinch an easy victory, and they now face Chennai Super Kings in the second qualifying match for a place in the finals.
