After six weeks of enthralling action and world class cricket, the eighth edition of the Pepsi IPL 2015 has reached its grand finale. Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings for the third time in an IPL final. This time it will be at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday night.
These two teams have been the best sides throughout the tournament and rightly deserve to be in the IPL 2015 final. Let us look at the possible team combinations and predict the winners of the summit clash.
Spinners will play an important role in the IPL 2015 final:
The Kolkata track has always been on the slower side and will offer great amount of turn and variable bounce. Both Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have quality spinners in their sides and will have a great impact on the outcome of the game. The likes of Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin may soon be bowling in tandem for India but for tomorrow they will be up against each other. The two can turn the ball a big way and will be a threat to the opposition batsmen.
Mumbai Indians probable XI for the IPL 2015 final:
New entrant Alex Hales may not get his maiden IPL game on Sunday as the pair of Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel have been successful in giving a good start for the Mumbai Indians. The middle order will have Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard with the good news for Mumbai being the form of Pollard.
Lasith Malinga is expected to spearhead the pace attack along with Mitchell McClenaghan and R Vinay Kumar. Harbhajan Singh and J Suchith will be the spinners. In short, Mumbai will show faith in their winning combination.
Probable XI: Lendl Simmons, Parthiv Patel (wk), Rohit Sharma (Capt), Ambati Rayudu, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, J Suchith, Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga, R Vinay Kumar, Mitchell McClenaghan.
Chennai Super Kings probable XI for the IPL 2015 final:
Michael Hussey has finally found some form with a responsible half-century which guided CSK to a win against Bangalore. He will continue to open the innings with Dwayne Smith. The slight shuffle between the no. 3 and no. 4 positions has not worked much for the Super Kings and Suresh Raina’s form has been a major concern. Considering his past performances against Mumbai, Suresh Raina will be expected to come up with a match winning effort.
MS Dhoni , Dwayne Bravo and Jadeja will have to finish the innings well to give the bowlers a good total to defend.
If compared to Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings are heavy on spinners and would be a better spin unit with the likes of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Pawan Negi. Suresh Raina too can roll his arm over and is an additional option for MS Dhoni. Ashish Nehra, Mohit Sharma and Dwayne Bravo will comprise of the pace unit and Bravo will be very effective at the death.
Probable XI: Dwayne Smith, Michael Hussey, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (Capt/wk), Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Pawan Negi, Mohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra.
IPL 2015 final: Prediction
This will be the fourth time when Mumbai Indians will play Chennai Super Kings in this edition of the IPL. Though Mumbai Indians have a 2-1 head to head record, Chennai are expected to come back stronger after playing a tight qualifier game against Bangalore. Hence, the Chennai Super Kings are expected to come out as winners at the IPL 2015 final and lift their third IPL trophy. Remember you heard it first here….
