A goal in each half for Dudu Omagbemi saw East Bengal stay in the hunt for the third spot in the I League. Playing in their adopted home at the Barasat Stadium, the Green and Gold Brigade picked up a 2-0 win over Royal Wahingdoh.
Both sides off to a slow start
In contrast to their previous matches, both sides began the fixture in a slow manner. The slow start and the aimless passing from the home side especially raised a few eyebrows. Between the two sides, they Royals looked the most threatening. Jackichand Singh and Kim Seng-Yong created problems for the East Bengal defensive pairing of Arnab Mondal and Gurwinder Singh.
Luis Barreto was the hero of the first half hour as he succeeded in keeping the Wahingdoh strikers at bay. Playing out of position on the right wing, Dudu Omagbemi struck a wonderful partnership Ranti Martins and Cavin Lobo.

Dudu Omagbemi (45+2) opened the scoring on the cusp of half time. Courtesy of some sloppy defending from Lallawmzuala saw a wonderful Ranti Martins cross met by a Dudu Omagbemi header. The header that deflected into the goal off the cross bar saw East Bengal go 1-0 as the teams entered the half time break.
Dudu doubles lead, Jackichand and co fail to find a way
Having made no changes at the break, the second half began in a similar fashion to the first one. Bekay Bewar came close to scoring the equalizer, only to be denied by Luis Barreto. Cavin Lobo once more did a magnificent job on the right wing.
The introduction of Seityasen Singh failed to inject motivation for the Royals as Dudu Omagbemi doubled the East Bengal lead in the 66th minute. A well worked set piece saw Dudu latch onto an out-swinger from Shylo Mama.
So Densill Theobald misses penalty and gets sent off
Royal Wahingdoh were given an opportunity to stage an unlikely comeback with 10 minutes left to play. A foul on Bekay Bewar saw the referee point to the spot. However, a howler of a miss from Denisll Theobald saw East Bengal maintain their 2-0 lead.
The match came to an ugly end as Densill Theobald and Shylo Mama were given their marching orders in injury time. An on-field altercation involving both the players saw the referee reach for the red card as both sides saw out the 4 additional minutes with 10 men apiece.
The win sees East Bengal renew their hopes for a third placed finish in the I League.
