Recent reports suggest that the 2017 edition of the Hero ISL will be rescheduled. With the FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled to take place in the monsoon of 2017, the organisers of the Indian Super League have their hands full. The FIFA Competition’s director Colin Smith addressed the issue by reserving the monsoon season to ensure that India hosts its first FIFA tournament.
Kushal Das: FIFA U-17 World Cup is our priority
While doubts are still arising regarding the rescheduling of the Hero Indian Super League, Kushal Das, the AIFF general secretary went on to mention,
“FIFA has reserved a period for the U-17 World Cup. And the period also suits us because before that there will be the monsoon. That tournament is our priority. It is the World Cup, after all. All other domestic tournaments will be conducted after that.”
In spite of the relatively positive statement from Kushal Das, the IMG Reliance group is not the happiest. However, the most immediate step taken is the rescheduling of the 2015 edition of the ISL. Recent reports suggest that the period between October to December 20th will be set aside for the star studded tournament. The reason behind these revised dates is to avoid player fatigue and burnouts.
At the moment, the AIFF has taken an executive decision to conduct the ISL upon completion of the World Cup. Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Guwahati, Kochi and Kolkata are among the cities that will be hosting FIFA U-17 World Cup.
