Bihar Government to Reward CWG medallist Shreyasi Singh

Once again the Indian shooters gave a memorable performances in the Commonwealth Games. Along with the haul of medals comes a lot of appreciation and rewards for the athletes.

The chief minister of Bihar, Jitan Ram Manjhi recently declared that the state government will honor Shreyasi Singh for clinching a silver medal in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She won the medal in the Double Trap shooting event in the individual category.  She will be rewarded Rs. 11 lakh.

Manjhi was all praises for the 23-year old shooter who hails from Bihar. Speaking at the “Khel Samman 2014” held in Patna, he said that she had made the state proud and the reward was to recognize her hard work, talent and accomplishment.

“We wish that Bihar and its players stand out in sports. We have a population of about 11.5 crore but we are not producing results in that proportion. The state is progressing but we need to do a lot to excel in sports. We need to figure out nutrition programs for our athletes. We have to have transparency and dynamism in our work”, he added.

The event saw the chief minister give away awards to 312 sportspersons, out of which 136 were female. International athletes Shailendra Kumar and specially-abled Mansi, were also among the awardees along with IAS officer and renowned mountaineer Ravindra Kumar.
