One man is set on a mission to unfurl the Indian flag on top, wherever he may go. Last year, he triumphed in the Commonwealth nations and became the champion of Asia. This year he has made Italy a part of his legacy. Yogeshwar Dutt won his latest gold at the International Wrestling Tournament in Sassari City, Italy.
Seven others, including up and coming wrestler Parveen Rana, also hit the spot in Italy. It would have been a perfect outing for India, but Rajneesh fell just short of the gold in the 65kg freestyle division.
The other gold medalists were Sonu (61kg), Somvir (86kg), Mausam Khatri (97kg), Hitender (125kg), Amit Kumar (57kg) and Narsingh Yadav (74kg).
Yogeshwar Unfazed By New Rules
The World Wrestling Federation revised and brought changes to the weight categories at the end of 2013. Yogeshwar Dutt found himself in the 65kg Division after the new guidelines were put in place. It proved to be a handful for many grapplers, but for Yogi it was just another challenge.
Wrestling in an increased weight category, Yogeshwar increased the quality of his moves. 2014 was a benchmark year in his career with consecutive successes at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in Incheon.
Wonder Kid Praveen Rana On A Mission
Olympic Gold Quest sponsored Praveen Rana had already recorded successes in Kazakhstan, Korea, U.S.A, Romania, Pakistan and Uzbekistan before heading to Italy. The 22-year old has conquered more countries now than many people can afford to visit in their lifetime.
His style of counter-attacking wrestling is heavily inspired by that of his role-model Sushil Kumar. With youngsters like Praveen Rana, Indian wrestling’s future seems to be headed to greater heights.
