Star Australian striker of BFC, Sean Rooney has parted ways with the club. This decision was announced barely a day after BFC lost the I-League title to Mohun Bagan. Rooney has been an integral part of the Bengaluru setup since the summer of 2013.
Sean Rooney finds greener pastures in Victoria
Sean Rooney was one of the first players to be inducted into the Bengaluru FC squad, terminating his contract with Blacktown City Demons. Rooney scored 10 goals from 24 appearances in the 2013-14 season. This season however, saw an off-colour Rooney net just six goals in 19 appearances.
On Monday, it was confirmed that Rooney had signed a deal that saw him return to his hometown — Victoria. He will represent Oakleigh Cannons FC in the Victoria league.
Ashley Westwood now has the difficult job of replacing his AFC player. Apart from the many players available at his end, Katsumi Yusa and Tolgay Ozbey are considered to be the frontrunners to fill the void left by Sean Rooney
After an initial year of great success , BFC will now have to find a way to rebuild for the next year. One additional elephant in the room will be the desire that some BFC players may have of playing in the ISL.The previous season did see BFC players not taking up the ISL and thereby starting the season fresh, possibly helping in ensuring a Federations Cup title
