The 2015 French Open saw its conclusion recently. The clay court tournament saw some excellent action throughout its run and the tennis fans were certainly entertained. Big Upsets At 2015 French Open
The 2015 French Open played host to a handful of big upsets this year. Maria Sharapova suffered the first shock. She was outclassed by the 13th seeded Lucie Safarova. Roger Federer’s journey in the 2015 French Open ended in the quarterfinals when he was knocked out by Stan Wawrinka.
The biggest clash of the tournament was the match played between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The players clashed on Nadal’s birthday and Djokovic managed to pull off a big upset by knocking the birthday boy out of the tournament.
Wawrinka and Serena Triumphs at 2015 French Open
The last few days of French Open 2015 had plenty of action. Journey of Stanislas Wawrinka stood out in the men’s category while Serena Williams dominated the women’s. Wawrinka went through Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Semi-Finals. On the other side of the card, Novak Djokovic booked his place by defeating Andy Murray. This set up a clash between the two in the final. After a tough fought battle, Wawrinka took home the title.
In the women’s category, giant killer Lucie Safarova faced off against veteran Serena Williams in the final. Serena had the advantage of experience on her side and it proved to be crucial. The win ensured her 20th Grand Slam title. It also stamped her place as one of the best players of her generation.
Safarova, however, did not leave empty handed. She won the doubles title along with Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The men’s doubles title went to Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo after they defeated the Bryan Brothers in the final.
