Legendary Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid has been named as the coach of India Under 19 and India A teams.
A big step for Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid, who made a name for himself in the coaching area with Rajasthan Royals, will be taking a big step with the new assignment. The decision to appoint Dravid was made after the first meeting of the BCCI’s advisory committee, which has the likes of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar.
The meeting was held at the Cricket Association of Bengal Office at Eden Gardens and was also attended by BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmia.
“The good news is that Rahul Dravid has agreed to coach India ‘A’ and under-19 teams in future,” BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur said in a press conference after the committee’s meeting.
Dravid was apparently the favourite to be the national team coach as well, but he opted out of the same due to family commitments. According to the sources, he is more interested in shaping up the next array of talent.
The India A team is going to get a lot of international exposure in the near future and steps will be taken for the same immediately.
“We will be hiring a number of coaches, physios and trainers. We would like to have a pyramid like structure where from top to bottom, similar coaching and facilities are available to all. All three (of the committee members) of them agree that if need be, Sourav, Sachin and Laxman can spare some time to help the Indian cricketers”
