When Barcelona win, they win everything. After a frustrating trophy-less season for the team and the fans in 2013-14, Barcelona have regained their ‘European Champion’ title in grand style. The Catalan giants completed a treble for the second time in their history by winning the La Liga, Copa Del Rey and UEFA Champions League.
The UEFA Champions League was a battle of the treble for both Barcelona and Juventus and it was the Spanish giants who went home with bragging rights.
Strong Start For Barcelona
Barcelona started off the game on the right foot. Ivan Rakitic gave them an early lead when he turned in a great assist from Iniesta in the fourth minute. Many fans expected it to be one-way traffic afterwards but Juventus fought back. They shored up their defense and created opportunities in order to draw level.
The scoreline failed to change before the half time. Juventus came back strong in the second and found an equalizer through Carlos Tevez. Tevez blasted the ball into the net from the centre of the penalty box, giving no chance to the Barca keeper.
Barcelona answer back
The deadlock did not remain for a long time as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez combined in the 68th minute to give Barcelona the lead again. Messi’s shot came off Gianluigi Buffon’s gloves only to find Suarez. The Uruguayan calmly buried the ball into the net to make it 2-1.
Neymar had a goal disallowed later in the 76th minute as the ball touched his hand before going into the net. Neymar, however, found redemption when he scored the third goal for Barcelona. It came in the last kick and marked a convincing 3-1 win for Barcelona.
