The Indian paddlers’ team of Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai missed out on winning the GAC Group ITTF World Australian Open. The Indian pair went down fighting to the fourth seeded pair of Kwan Kit and Lam Siu Hang of Hong Kong in four sets, 4-11, 4-11, 11-8, 4-11 on Saturday in the international table tennis tournament.
Reasonable Success in Doubles for Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai
The third-seeded Indian pair, prior to their upset in the final, had made the most out of their run in the tournament. They had two tough matches in their first round and quarter-final matches, coming through after playing the full quota of five games in each match. In the semi-final, they beat the Belgian pair of Cedric Nuytinck and Robin Devos in straight games to power their way to the final.
Disappointment in Singles
In singles, the Indian contingent had even less success in the tournament. Both Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai lost out in the pre-quarter-finals to Young Sik Jung of South Korea and Yuya Oshima of Japan respectively.
