Fatullah Test Day 4: Rain Rain Go Away

The Fatullah Test between India and Bangladesh remained hamstrung by heavy rains on Day 4 as well. India and Bangladesh rarely play a Test match and unfortunately when they did play one, it is rain that dominates the headlines. No more than 30.1 overs could be bowled in the entire day. Bangladesh managed 111/3 after an overnight declaration from the visitors. While Ravichandran Ashwin bagged a couple of wickets for India, Imrul Kayes scored an unbeaten half century for the hosts.

Bangladesh begin brightly, but Indian spinners strike back

Even though the home team lost the wicket of Tamim Iqbal in the 7th over, Imrul Kyes and Mominul Haque constructed a 81 run 2nd wicket partnership in quick time. With these two at the crease, the Bangladeshis scored in excess of a rate of 4. The Indian spinners, Ashwin and Harbhajan, however, responded with the wickets of Haque and skipper Rahim within a space of 6 deliveries! This period of action significantly brightened chances of a good contest developing between the two sides on the last 2 days. But, rain made an appearance for the second time, shortly before lunch, and obstinately held on (in patches) for the rest of the day.

Gone are the days when cricket fans would chant, “Rain Rain, go away, come again when West Indies play “. But test cricket fans eager to see the progress of the Indian Test team under Virat or the improvement of Bangladesh in Test cricket, will have to wait another day…or another cricket season !
