Reigning national squash champion Harinder Pal Sandhu caused a major upset as he reached the final of Doubledot Media Christchurch International on Saturday. Sandhu stunned the top-seeded Raphael Kandra of Germany in a hard-fought four-game battle 12-10, 11-6, 15-13, 11-7 in 63 minutes. The 26 year old will now square off against 4th seeded Declan James for the title.

The third-seeded Harinder Pal Sandhu eked out the first game 12-10 with sheer display of speed and precision. The 50th ranked Raphael Kandra came back into the match in the second game. The left-handed German was in total control of the second game and clinched it 11-6.
The third game saw some exhilarating squash from both the players. In a battle of long and draining rallies, it was Sandhu who emerged victorious with a score of 15-13.
That gave him oodles of confidence to nudge ahead in the fourth. The 61st ranked Harinder Pal Sandhu took the fourth game 11-7 and the match 3-1 to march into the final of this 10k event.
The Indian will challenge fourth-seeded Declan James for the title on Sunday.
