Snooker World Cup: Indian Cueists Win Bronze

12-time world champion Pankaj Advani, along with Aditya Mehta, failed to make it to the finals of the 2015 Snooker World Cup in Wuxi, China. They were beaten by Scotland in a close encounter and hence settled for the bronze medal. This is India’s best performance till date at the prestigious Snooker World Cup.

India lose to Scotland in Snooker World Cup Semis

India were facing an upbeat Scottish team in the semifinals, which consisted of leading snooker star Stephen Maguire and four-time world champion John Higgins. In the best-of-seven format, Advani and Mehta went down 3-4 against the Scottish duo. The match went down the wire where Aditya Mehta missed a match-winning chance. Maguire finished with a brilliant final frame on the last pink to edge past the Indians.

However, it was not Scotland who clinched top honours as they faltered in their final hurdle. They were stunned by China ‘B’ comprising of teenage sensations Yan Bingtao (15) and Zhou Yuelong (17). Maguire and Higgins defeated the defending champions China’A’ in the quarterfinals but failed to overcome these youngsters in the summit clash. Bingtao and Yuelong saw off the Scottish Cueists comfortably with a margin of 4-1 to clinch the gold medal at the Snooker World Cup.
