Eleventh seeds Leander Paes and Daniel Nestor entered the men’s doubles second round of 2015 Wimbledon Championships but it was the end of the road for Purav Raja as he and partner Fabrice Martin crashed out in the opening round on Wednesday.
2015 Wimbledon: Easy win for Leander
The Indo-Canadian pairing of Leander Paes and Daniel Nestor began on a bright note as they broke the Serbian duo of Viktor Troicki and Dusan Lajovic twice to claim the first set 6-3. The second set too went the way of the eleventh seeds as they secured one break to make it 6-4.
The third set was more competitive and it went according to serve until the very end. Paes and Nestor clinched the decisive break to grab the set and the match 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in 1 hour 43 minutes.
Purav Raja’s Wimbledon dream comes to an end
Purav Raja and his French partner Fabrice Martin, who qualified for the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, had a tough proposition in the first round. The Indo-French team faced the 2012 Wimbledon champions – Jonathan Marray of Great Britain and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark.
Marray and Nielsen were in cruise control of the match as soon as it began. They comfortably grabbed the first set 6-1 by breaking the Indo-French pair twice. They seized the second set too 6-4 by virtue of one break.
Raja and Martin, however, came alive in the third set and broke the former champions twice to take the set 6-4. The fourth set was dead even as both the pairs traded breaks and the set eventually headed to a tie-break. In a heartbreakingly close score of 7-9, Raja and Martin ended up on the losing side.
Marray and Nielsen got the 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(7) win in 2 hours 31 minutes.
