The Indian Basketball team seals its spot in the 2015 FIBA Asian Championships with a win over Sri Lanka The Indian group conquered the other unbeaten team Sri Lanka in the last match to decide the victor of the SABA Championships in Bangalore.
The Indian team effectively guarded their crown at the SABA Championship by keeping up their unbeaten-run. Throughout this tournament, India was able to blitz past their opponents and defeat them with huge margins. India’s biggest win came against Bangladesh by a mammoth eighty three points.
Aravind powers Indian Basketball at SABA Championships
India’s two towering debutants Aravind Annadurai and A Arvind stole the show even as the team was missing stalwarts Amjyot Singh, Amritpal Singh, Yadwinder Singh, and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi. The two debutants were India’s version of the “Twin Towers” that were part of the San Antonio Spurs team (David Robinson and Tim Howard)
India depended on its taller front-line, man to defend in the paint as well as launch counter attacks on the break. The speedy Indian forwards were successful with their outside shooting and the team was able to to garner 100+ points in three of their prior four matches.
The final game against Sri Lanka was no different.The Lankans battled valiantly to keep the score-board ticking, however the Indian attackers overwhelmed their opponents with a scoring rate almost twice as that of the visitors.
Four of India’s players enrolled a score in double digits, with Center Aravind standing out with 22 points including a three-pointer which is rare for a man playing his position.
In the final standings India managed the Gold for the second year running, with Sri Lanka and Nepal settling for Silver and Bronze respectively. India will be drawn with tough competition in the FIB Asian Championship and it will be interesting to see how they progress.
