Gwangju Sports Meet: Indian Shooters Open Account

India opened its medal tally at Gwangju Sports Meet being held in South Korea in the 10m Air Rifle shooting team event stowing a bronze. The trio of Akhil Sheoran, Harmanvir Singh and Ekambir Singh shot a sum of 1859.0 points, to finish third behind the shooters from China (1870.6 points) and Korea (1866.4). Apurvi Chandela narrowly missed a podium finish in the women’s event with 163.7 points.

Indian duo Surekha and Kawalpreet win silver at Gwangju Sports meet

In archery, the Indian mix compound team of Kawalpreet Singh and V Jyothi Surekha entered the final against hosts Korea and lost with an edge of seven points, but ensured a silver medal for the country. While the men’s group succumbed to their second defeat and passed up a major opportunity for a bronze, losing to Italy in the play-offs.

India’s Elwin Antony and Ronit Bisht triumphed in straight sets in the first round, only to go down in the second as the two failed to put up any challenge against their respective opponents. While India’s Sood siblings lost in a tough fight 6-2, 6-4 to the hands of the Chinese Wong and Yeung in the third round of the Gwangju Sports Meet.
