Indian Shooters Earn Third Bronze At Universiade

The Indian men’s trio of Ankur Mittal, Asgar Hussain Khan and Namanveer Brar finished third to win the bronze in the double trap team event at the Universiade at Gwangju, South Korea. The Indian team shot a sum of 335 to guarantee the third place behind champions Italy (400) and Russia (398). In comparison, the Indian shooters performed ineffectively, completing 65 points shy of the inevitable champions.

Ankur fired with 135 points in five rounds with scores of 25, 27, 28, 28, 27 while Asgar added another 111 points with shots of 23, 24, 24, 19, 22 and Namanveer ended with a not so bright show with 89 points in his five rounds.

The bronze was India’s fifth overall medal at the Universiade and the third from the shooting range at Gwangju.

In other events, it was a good day for the young Indian shuttlers as Shreyansh Kumar Jaiswal, Venkat Nandula and Rohit Chittaboina qualified with ease to the round of 16. Also, mixed doubles pair of H N Thandrangni and Meghna Jakkampudi from Andhra have made it to the round of 16.

While Women’s shot-putter Manpreet Kaur made her entry in the final round to be played on 11th July 2015.
