With clubs warming up for next season, training and preparing for their pre-season friendlies, it’s the transfers that have taken the center stage. Manchester United have been the most active team, recruiting 3 World Class players in 2 days, while Manchester City are busy breaking transfer records. Manchester City sign Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling for £49 million!
Manchester City opened their checkbook to shell out a record £49 million for the transfer of 20-year-old Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling. The transfer, which is the highest fees ever paid for an English player, brings to an end one of the transfer sagas of the silly season so far, after the forward had declined to go on Liverpool’s pre-season tour. Sterling is set to earn a reported £180,000-per-week at Etihad, after putting pen to paper on a five-year-deal, he has been given the No 7 jersey.
Manchester United sign Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Darmian, while Van Persie leaves for Turkey
The transfer frenzy at Old Trafford would make you believe, it’s the transfer deadline day, with players flying in from everywhere to complete their medicals, ahead of their multi-million pound moves. World Cup winning Bayern Munich midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger was signed for a fee in the region of £15 million, while Southampton’s combative midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin cost the Red Devils £25 million. Matteo Darmian was signed a day before the double delight of midfielders, for a fee again in the region of £15 million.
In these times, with players flocking in, to help the Old Trafford outfit mount a serious title challenge next term, one Dutchman silently exited the club, and signed for Fenerbahce with 10,000 present in attendance for his unveiling. Robin Van Persie signed for the Turkish club, after having scored 144 goals in the Premier League and becoming the 10th highest goal scorer in the history of the competition. Another star marking his exit, is the Portuguese winger Nani, who was also snapped up by Fenerbahce, while Louis Van Gaal had already signed Dutch sensation Memphis Depay earlier in the post season.
Adios San Iker
After an illustrious career stretching over 17-years, Legendary spanish goalkeeper, Iker Casillas left the Santiago Bernabeu with tears in his eyes, as he signed for Portuguese side FC Porto. He was not the only player to depart the “club of their life”, with Xavi signing for Qatari side Al Sadd SC and Italian maestro Andrea Pirlo signing for New York City FC.
Many high profile players are still linked with a move to one of the big boys, with David De Gea said to be a top target for Real Madrid CF, while Angel Di Maria is also close to moving to Paris Saint Germain, only a year after his British-Transfer-Record move to Manchester United.
