India’s Anirban Lahiri will be playing in the British Open this week and he will be looking for a strong performance at the tournament.
First Time at St Andrews for Anirban Lahiri
The Old course at St Andrews will play host to the tournament and it will be Lahiri’s first time at the course. Lahiri, however, is optimistic about the same and is not going to allow the pressure to get to him. Lahiri is currently on top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit and has played two open Championships prior to this edition of the British Open.Anirban is also in the top-15 European Order of merit.
“This is my first time in St Andrews and I already like how the course sets itself up. It’s nice to be here and you want to be here as often as you can,” said Lahiri during a press conference.
Lahiri will be joined by his family, his coach Vijay Divecha and his regular caddy Rajiv for the tournament.
“Anirban is improving with each tournament, each day. He is a good learner and sees every round as a learning experience,” Divecha said about Lahiri.
Meanwhile, Lahiri has a clear tactic heading into the tournament and it would be interesting to see whether he could implement it.
“Here you have to hit to the left, anything on the right can be a problem. That suits my game because I tend to hit to the left more. You have to favour the left side for most of the tee shots, which is my natural shot shape. There are a few scoring holes out there and you got to get through the first few holes strongly. I’ve more or less got my strategy in place,” Lahiri added.
