Excellent performances from Somdev Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri secured India the win against New Zealand at the Davis Cup 2015.
Davis Cup India vs New Zealand – Somdev Comes back Strong
Somdev Devvarman, who lost his first singles match from a winning position came back strongly in the must win fourth rubber match. Somdev was supposed to face Jose Statham in the match but Jose was replaced by Marcus Daniell.
The sudden change of opponent did not baffle Somdev. He took home the first set comfortably with a score of 6-4. The Indian then went on to showcase some dominating tennis in the next two sets as well to win the match. The final score read 6-4,6-4,6-4 in favour of Somdev Devvarman.
Somdev’s win levelled the proceedings and piled up the pressure on Yuki Bhambri who was up next.
Yuki Bhambri Seals it for India
Yuki had a date with his former doubles partner Michael Venus in the crucial deciding match. Yuki required just 30 minutes to wrap up the first set with a score of 6-2. Later, he won the second set with the same score line and the writing was on the wall. Venus did show some fight in the third but Yuki kept his cool and took home the set with a score of 6-3. With Yuki’s win, India defeated New Zealand 3-2.
