Manjeet Chhillar-led Bengaluru Bulls strengthened their position at the top four of the Pro Kabaddi League table with a dominating 35-21 win over the Telugu Titans in Patna on Friday. The Bengaluru skipper displayed a brilliant all-round performance as he picked up 9 points which included 8 tackle points. He was well supported by star raider Ajay Thakur, who came up with his best performance in the league so far, picking up 9 points as well. For the Telugu Titans, defender Sandeep and raider Prashant Rai K managed four points apiece and were the joint top-scorers for their side.
Bengaluru Bulls manage narrow first-half lead after Manjeet Chhillar impresses
Coming on the back of a convincing 34-22 win against Patna Pirates on Thursday, the Telugu Titans were all charged up and looked to get their campaign back on track. Bengaluru Bulls on the other hand, had some thinking to do as they went horribly wrong with their defensive tactics which cost them their previous match against Jaipur Pink Panthers.
The game kicked off with Rahul Chaudhari and Sukesh Hegde winning two quick raid points to put the Titans in the lead. The Bulls responded with touch points from Ajay Thakur and Manjeet Chhillar and the latter also made a couple of tackles to deny his opponents a point. With the score tied at 8-8 after 15 minutes, the Titans tackled Ajay Thakur to move ahead but Bengaluru then picked up 3 consecutive points to end the first half on a confident note. The score read 12-9 at half time.
Bengaluru inflict two all-outs in second half, cruise towards victory
Bengaluru Bulls came into the second half as the more aggressive side as they sent the opponents back into the dugout one after one. Within just four minutes since the commencement of the second half, the Bulls secured the first all-out of the match and the score now read 18-10 in their favour. The defensive unit, comprising of skipper Manjeet Chhillar, Preetam Chhillar, Dharmaraj Cheralathan and Gurpreet Singh were flawless in their tackling and took down almost each and every raider in the opposition.
The Bulls went on to build a healthy lead since the first all-out and managed to keep the Titans out of contention. Ajay Thakur came up with another cracker of a raid in the 38th minute where he dodged past Sandeep and Sukesh Hegde and dived over Meraj Sheykh to get past the mid-line. The referee signalled a Super Raid and Bengaluru went 30-18 ahead with just two minutes on the clock. Thakur followed it up with two more raid points to seal the fate of the Telugu Titans. Sukesh Hegde, the last man standing for the Titans went for the last raid of the match and was brought down by Manjeet Chhillar and Co. to seal two more all-out points. Bengaluru emerged victorious with a clinical 35-21 margin and stay at the third place on the points table.
