U Mumba: SWOT Analysis

1) Strengths – Strong Raiders led by Anup Kumar

It is pretty clear that raiders are their biggest strength. U Mumba has by far superior, steady and stable set of raiders. U Mumba heavily relies on their raiders. Anup Kumar ‘King of bonus points’ has 182 raid points so far in Pro Kabaddi League. Rishank Devadiga has 33 per cent of successful raids in just six games and Shabeer Bapu, 28 raid points in six games with 40 per cent of successful raids. These star raiders already are in supreme form, and the U Mumba side is a formidable unit once again.

Anup Kumar’s Proficiency :

Perhaps nowhere is the importance of good leadership as apparent as in a sports team. A good sports team captain can lead the team to success and recognition; and can help a moderate team play better. Anup Kumar is a confident man and is enthusiastic about his game and about his role as a leader. He has a passionate belief in his team and has an ability to handle the conflicts in the hard-and-fast situations when his team is under pressure. In game against the Telugu Titans where he was very resourceful and played his heart out. He exactly did what he supposed to do, as per situation’s demand.

“The rest of the team, they are the real heroes of the game. I knew I had to raise my game on such an occasion”, said Kumar, after the game .

2. Weaknesses : No genuine all rounder

All-rounder’s are worth their weight in gold in all forms of the game, but in Kabaddi they worth even more. All-rounders play a vital role by giving the side some much-needed balance and extra options if needed. The U Mumba does not have a genuine all-rounder. When U Mumba’s supreme attack breaks down, they suddenly look predictable, they definitely lack a player known for his tackling, and who is also extremely good with his raid, that’s where they possess a threat of an all-out.

3. Opportunities:

With U Mumba having won 6 games on the trot, it wouldbe no surprise if we find them finishing the group stages on top. In the crucial knockout stages they will need this momentum to last them down the stretch.

We came so close last season and with the final once again being held in Mumbai, we owe our fans the trophy,” said Kumar, who was also part of the team that won the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games gold.

4. Threats:

The biggest threat to a team on the top of the table is conceitedness, and the U Mumba needs to keep working hard to stay there, the next challenge for them is to be a consistent force and be a consistent team; they need to hold themselves to a standard of giving 100 per cent effort in every game.
